Wood Storage Rack

All the clutter that started out in the garage started collecting on the woodpile. Ok, that is a lie. I actually had little woodpiles all over the place and the clutter just started piling up on the largest of the piles. The mess looked something like what you see here.

As you can see in the picture below it was getting kind of hard getting to the mill! Especially after I got a really good deal on a bunch of seasoned cherry.

My new wood rack uses 2x4 studs form a frame. Just minimal sawing is required. All the boards I was able to get at the local hardware store were slightly warped so I had to plane the bottom of the boards.

Since I am working out of a converted garage I made sure that the woodpile could be accessed from the outside by opening the garage door. A little awkward in the wintertime but it dramatically improves storage and access to small pieces.

I chose to only put up three shelves. If I were doing this again I would probably make at least four. I also put up a piece of plywood to retain the wood in the rack. This dramatically improved the rigidity
