{"id":1504,"date":"2015-06-27T15:27:53","date_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hhhh.org\/joeboy\/blog\/?p=1504"},"modified":"2015-06-28T00:50:57","modified_gmt":"2015-06-28T07:50:57","slug":"dr-t-explains-out-distillation-setup-with-modifications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hhhh.org\/joeboy\/blog\/?p=1504","title":{"rendered":"Dr. T explains our distillation setup, with our added ice bath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So as Dr. T showed in our earlier posts \u2013 we are using a <A href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00902TRGC?psc=1&#038;redirect=true&#038;ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00\">distillation kit<\/a> from Amazon to get us started.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhhh.org\/joeboy\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/distillation_equipment_June25th_2015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hhhh.org\/joeboy\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/distillation_equipment_June25th_2015.jpg\" alt=\"distillation_equipment_June25th_2015\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1514\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The only problem is that the kit is supposed to be cooled from water running from a tap, through the Graham condenser, and down the drain. My not wanting to waste water aside, I don\u2019t have a sink in my shop. So we rigged up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00DHC2GJ6?psc=1&#038;redirect=true&#038;ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01\">heat sink<\/A> suitable for the same tubing running into and out of the Graham condenser, and added a thermos to act as an ice bath. <\/p>\n<p>A small <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B009X6ADCM?psc=1&#038;redirect=true&#038;ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00\">pump<\/a> cycles the water from the ice bath, through the Graham condenser, through the heat sink, and then back into the ice bath. We add a few ice cubes to the bath to get it started and then let things cool from there. To that we added a<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adafruit.com\/products\/1335\">Peltier Thermo-Electric cooling module<\/a> from Adafruit. That keeps pumping heat out of the system.
