DDeessccrriippttiioonn
tteexx22aasscc reads from its input a simple (e.g., containing no math) TeX
document and writes an ASCII (or ...see below) version of the document
on the standard output. This version of tteexx22aasscc is designed to handle
       a  specific  subset of TeX, namely the productions of project Libellus;
anything else may come out looking a bit odd (although it is guaranteed
to have no \directives in it).

OOppttiioonnss
Long options, namely those which are preceded by ``--'', may be abbre-
viated, so long as the abbreviation is unique; for example, ``--mac''
for ``--mac-set'' will work, however ``--number'' will produce an
error, since it could mean either ``--number-lines'' or ``--number-sec-
tions''. Short options (-a, -g, -s, -r) are presented first, as they
control many switches at once, and they are the most often used.

-a Displays output in an ``informal ASCII'' mannner. Accented
characters are represented by their base character alone; foot-
notes are removed; and line- and section-numbers do not appear.
Emphasis appears as: *italics*, =boldface=, _underline_.

       -f _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e
Instead of taking input from the standard input and writing on
the standard output, tteexx22aasscc will take its input from _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e
and write its output on _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e.asc. If _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e contains a
dot, ``.asc'' will be appended to _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e, up to the first dot,
and that used for the output filename.

-g ``Gutenberg style''. Paragraph breaks are represented by
CR-LF-CR-LF instead of being indented. Also, lines are termi-
nated by CR-LF, regardless of what machine tteexx22aasscc is being run
on. Accented characters appear as the base character only.
Footnotes appear at the end of the document, and lines and sec-
              tions are not numbered.

-r RTF mode. Output is printed in Rich Text Format. Lines are not
              numbered (the reading program is assumed to be able to do that);
however sections are numbered. Greek text is output in a format
that can be read by the GreekKeys package.

-s For producing minimalist ASCII documents. Italics and boldface
are not represented; also, automatic chapter, section, and line
numbering are disabled, and footnotes are discarded.

       --ansi-controls
Displays output in a format suitable for vt100 and other
ansi-style terminals. Italics and boldface are represented by
              terminal italic and boldface, respectively.

       --ascii-controls
Italics, boldface, and underline will be marked with asterisk
(*), equals (=), and underscore as follows: *italic*words*,
              =boldface=words=, and _underlined_words_.

       --strip-controls
Italics and boldface will not be represented.

       --end-notes
Place footnotes at the end of the output.

       --fake-greek
Greek text is left as it appears in the input file.

       --few-crs
With this option, newlines will only appear at the end of a
paragraph, or at the end of a line if \obeylines has been
declared (as when typesetting poetry). Otherwise, carriage
returns will mark the end of every line in the output.

       --file-notes
Place footnotes into a separate file, _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e.ftn if the --ff
option is used, otherwise into the file ``footnote.asc''.

       --greekkeys
Greek is converted into a format that can be read by the
GreekKeys package. This can only be used in combination with
              the --rtf or -r options.

       --ibm-set
Use the IBM PC character set when forming letters with diacriti-
cal marks. Combinations which do not appear in the IBM charac-
ter set are replaced by the base character with no diacritical
              mark.

       --leave-notes
Leave footnotes where they appear in the body of the text. To
distinguish footnotes from the surrounding text, they are
              enclosed in <[ ]>.

       --mac-set
Use the Macintosh ``standard'' character set when forming let-
ters with diacritical marks. Combinations which do not appear
in the Macintosh character set are replaced by the base charac-
              ter with no diacritical mark.

       --no-accents
Ignore all diacritical and accent marks.

       --number-lines[=_x]
If _x is other than zero, automatic line numbering will be
enabled (the default). Otherwise, it will be disabled. Note,
however, that line numbering will appear only in documents
requesting it, even if ----nnuummbbeerr--lliinneess is set.

       --number-sections[=_x]
If _x is other than zero, automatic chapter and section numbering
will be enabled; otherwise, it will be disabled.

       --rtf-codes
              See -r, above.

       --strip-notes
              Footnotes are to be discarded.

       --win-greek
Make inserted Greek text work with the WinGreek package. This
option only works in conjunction with --rtf.

       --xterm-set
Use the llaattiinn11 character set when forming letters with diacriti-
cal marks. Combinations which do not appear in the llaattiinn11 char-
acter set are replaced by the base character with no diacritical
              mark.
