Dynamite is a bar in downtown Kirkland that has a small dance floor. Being a bar, expect there to be smoke, although I must admit that it was probably the least smoky bar I've ever been in (not that my sample size is huge, but I didn't feel like I had to hold my breath all the time). Dynamite also has an enormous-screen TV, which will probably have some sort of sporting event on it, and has a couple of pool tables behind the dance floor. Parking in downtown Kirkland can be difficult; I've indicated some likely areas on the map but if those are full you'll just have to drive around till you find some street parking. But hey, at least it's free.

I honestly have to say that if your goal is to go dancing, this may not be the place for it. Admittedly, I was only there once, so my experience there may have been atypical, but here's how I found it to be. There was a live band that night, which I gather is only true twice a month; alternate Wednsdays or something like that. They were loud. Very loud. Painfully loud. And they had a tendancy to play songs that were very long as far as ordinary dance numbers go. That's probably fine if you're actually out there on the floor, but if you're waiting for the break between songs so you can ask someone to dance and have them actually hear you, then it's not ok. The music is of the Swing/Lindy-hop style, which is not surprising since the dance floor doesn't have room for more than about 5 couples, and certainly not for any travelling dances such as Tango or Foxtrot.

Also, do yourself a favor and bring your own date/dance partner. I asked several women (not including those in the group of friends I'd gone with) to dance, and not a one of them was interested. I heard everything from "I don't know how" (and didn't want to learn) to "I'm just watching" to "no thanks, I'm with someone else". I guess that's fine, but since I'm somewhat accustomed to more relaxed, dance with anybody, don't be jealous type places I found those reactions somewhat rude and no fun at all.

Anyway, if you want to go out for a beer and maybe have a dance or two with your sweetie, Dynamite will probably do you fine and the tiny little two dollar cover charge is certainly a point in its favor. But if you just want to go out dancing, Dynamite is more of a wet firecracker than anything else.
